My Journey in Counseling and Family Life
I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, with eight siblings and learned how to get along with others in a large family. My parents were church planters in Nevada after leaving the farm life in Oklahoma. I played tennis in high school and was also very interested in pursuing a career helping people. After graduating high school, I attended Westmont College in California for two years and then completed my B.A. in psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno. After several years, I went back to school to complete my M.A. in Counseling and Educational Psychology in 1992, with a dual emphasis in marriage and family counseling and school counseling. I worked in schools for 15 years as a school counselor, teacher, and administrator. I then began counseling in private practice in Oregon in 2008 and worked with children, teens, individuals, and families. In my former marriage, I raised three children who are now young adults, and two are married. I moved to Colorado from Oregon in 2017 and remarried in 2018. My husband, Dave, and I are enjoying our six grandchildren and all the giggles, hugs, and play they bring. In my free time, I enjoy hiking in the mountains, cooking paleo recipes, writing scripture meditations, bicycling, and having lattes with friends.
